IPJ is a journal and insight-sharing system. The Interactive Personal Journal is a tool for gleaning, applying and sharing insights. IPJ encourages this process by providing text (written by various authors on a wide range of subjects), questions, and a place for responding, and the ability to link and search the user's notes. If desired, the notes can be easily exported to disk, sent to a clearinghouse, and re-distributed for sharing with other IPJ users. The IPJ concept has elements of: * A conversation with a new acquaintance, where one person tells about some event, and this reminds the other of his or her own experience, and the interaction between the two generates an energy for gaining new understanding. Here, the interaction is between you and the author(s), with IPJ serving as a prompter and note-taker. * When insights are shared, the resulting thread is similar in appeal to that of a Bulletin Board System (BBS) forum, or a Letter to the Editor column, where the comments of others can be quite interesting and thought-provoking. The text and questions, as well as the attractive and easy-to-use interface, are the keys to IPJ's vitality and appeal. Permission has been obtained from various publishers to include portions of text from popular books which lend themselves well to the IPJ concept. Suggestions for learning IPJ: 1. Select each menu item and each button, read the screens and respond to the prompts. This will help you to become familiar with the many features and capabilities of IPJ. Use your Tab key and Enter button or mouse to select the "Text" button in the upper right corner of the screen. Select it again to see how that button operates. You may want to learn HyperPAD, the authoring system used to create the Interactive Personal Journal. A demo, tutorial, highly acclaimed manuals and technical support are all available. Select "Navigate", "HyperPAD" from the menu bar for more information. Try it now! 2. Select "Navigate," "Maps" from the menu bar to see some of the ways you may approach your use of IPJ, such as by themes, by systematic chapter-by-chapter study, and so on. IPJ is designed so that the text, questions and your thoughts may be explored. There is no right or wrong way to use IPJ, and the benefit you derive from it will depend to a great extent on your attitude, inquisitive and responsive nature, and committment of quality time to your Interactive Personal Journal. If you haven't yet been there, a visit to "Navigate, Documentation" is suggested. Happy Exploring!
